As families in Louisiana and across the nation honor the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who gave their lives to bring freedom and democracy to the world, we should all recommit ourselves to deliver on the promises we make to the brave men and women who serve our country. Today should reinforce the great sacrifice we ask military families to make to keep us safe, and confront the reality of what they face after returning home from the front lines. No man or woman who served their country should go without access to quality health care, a path to affordable housing or a chance to gain the skills and training they need to enter the workforce at home. America’s veterans have more than held up their end of the bargain, and the best way we can show our unyielding gratitude for what they do is to keep working until every veteran gets the help and support they need to re-enter civilian life.
