As far as the 2014 Boston Marathon goes, for those who dont know, I wanted to fill you in on the plan Ive had all along. The registration dates were actually a few weeks ago. So this marathon would normally be to qualify for 2015. Also, because my time was so close to the max allowable, although I can technically call myself a qualifier not everyone always gets to run. If the race is really popular in a given year, priority is given to faster runners. Sometimes, the slowest qualifiers dont get a spot. But there are perks associated with being a fitness writer. I wont know officially until February, but Im on the list of hopefuls to get a media pass. I dont think I officially need a qualifying time to run as media. However, for personal reasons I decided that if I didnt make the bare minimum time, I wouldnt even ask for a spot. It wouldnt be right to use media credentials to break the rules. So instead, I guess Im just asking to bend the rules a little by asking for a media spot instead of a regular one. Anyway, there is no guarantee the theyll give me that spot. Ill push like hell to convince them to give me one, and Im pretty confident, but at the end of the day, I cant make them do anything. So, Ill ask you all to cross some body parts one more time that I get that pass. If I get to run Boston next April, I promise to write a good story.
