As far back as 1880 when the Cook County School of Nursing was established through today, Nursing has been the heartbeat of our health system. Our Nurses have been providing very good care to the citizens of Cook County for more than 130 years. They are fundamentally significant to not only the health of our patients but also to our organizational success. It is the nature of our nurses to constantly give of themselves to our patients by assisting and supporting in ways beyond the execution of clinical therapeutics: holding their hand, listening to their concerns, addressing their needs, and demonstrating the care and compassion that is unique to healthcare workers. We are honored to have a patient-centered nursing team who provide unconditional service day in and day out to improve the health of our patients. The driving force behind the dedication of our staff is the personal satisfaction and pride they take to partner with patients toward wellness, care for the sick and provide comfort to patients and families when they are most vulnerable. While the world of healthcare is rapidly changing, one thing remains constant – the need for quality conscious, empathetic professional nurses who focus on ensuring individualized quality patient care to attain the best possible health outcomes. We are fortunate to have such a team in our health system. Our nursing staff continuously strives for improving the health of the residents of Cook County through continuous learning so as to always provide safe, high quality evidence-based nursing care. It is this continued commitment to improve nursing practice which has sustained our health system and will lead the way to transform our healthcare delivery model and ensure we are a provider of choice for our patients. While we celebrate and recognize our hard-working nursing staff, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who support our nurses including our nursing assistants, patient care attendants, medical assistants, technicians and clerks. This is the team that makes a difference not only to the patients and families but also to other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide best possible care. On behalf of the CCHHS community, we wish all our nurses a very happy Nurses Week. Thank you for continuing to make an impact on the health and well-being of our patients. Sincerely, Jay Shannon, MD Interim Chief Executive Officer Agnes Therady, RN Executive Director of Nursing
