As flawed humans, we tend to get caught up with our titles, accomplishments, and relationships. We can lose our true identity when we let temporary things and important people have too much influence in our lives. For example, many men think of their job as being absolutely vital to who they are. (Women can do this, too.) Theyve poured themselves into their work for decades, frequently putting in tons of overtime, only to find out that the day comes when they get laid off or retire. Too many are then at a loss as to how to deal with being themselves in uncomfortable situations, so they kind of withdraw from the human race, preferring to stay at home in front of the TV or computer. Women often put so much energy into being a wonderful wife or a great mom that if their husbands die or leave them, their children get married and move away, they find themselves in a mental quandary. While circumstances will bring us all to a place of pause now and then, even having to deal with an occasional tragedy, if we put our hope in being Gods sons and daughters, we can definitely deal with lifes ups and downs in a way that ultimately leads us in peace. Take time today to reassess your identity because if you lost everything you can see, you can rely on the fact that God is forever with you and as His child, he will take care of you. Remember, too, Hes great at turning sad endings into marvelous beginnings. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)
