As frequently happens, I was just going through an old diary from 2006 and re-discovered a matter that I had clearly seen fit to record..... yet had apparently forgotten about straight after, it seems!? Rolls eyes!! Ironically, I probably havent re-read the data concerned since I actually wrote it down.....!? Rolls eyes!! The matter concerns activity at a standard council-type property in the Dudley region of the Black Country..... The son of the family concerned - a youngish teen at the time of the interview - reported having paranormal-style experiences for most of his life..... including ghost sightings, precognitive episodes, etc. At the house in question, he apparently saw, on occasion, the top half of a figure of an elderly woman, who was said to be grey and very wrinkly and wearing some form of old gown. He believes he first saw the woman around the age of 5 or so. His experiences also involved such things as the feeling of being touched on the shoulder and the smell of fish....... (A lot of the interview digressed to talk of what occurred at a residential, educational site that he had attended, including instances of prediction and an episode of being strangled on a playing field - sensation of hands around throat, squeezing, etc - for which he received medical attention. Nothing found to account for the episode, medically speaking, etc). Interestingly, the lad had come to regard himself as potentially gifted because of the incidents concerned and had begun to wonder if the elderly woman was somehow there to help him in some way..... He wondered if she might actually leave at times (on manifesting) if she thought that she had scared him......? The boy related the notion that there were 2 separate ghosts in their home - a young girl and the old lady mentioned earlier. He admitted he knew very little about experiences with the young girl, as she only appeared in his mothers bedroom. His father had apparently seen her, but his mother always hid her face under the duvet when she appeared!! Poltergeist-like activity had also occurred in the room, in the form of clothing moving around and the alarm clock being seen to float and change time, etc. The activity concerned occurred so often, the family had pretty much got used to the sightings and happening to a point that it was viewed as fairly normal. When the lad was around 10 yrs old, however, they did call in a local vicar to see if anything could be done about the matter. Activity ceased for something like 2 years and then began once again. Everyone who came to eventually visit the site in this capacity - clergy, psychics and so on - said that there were 2 spirits involved with the activity. (A visit from a psychic in 2005 is credited with having brought an end to the activity concerned!?) The boys mother said that when the lad was around 3 yrs old, he used to say things like Stop the lady talking to me! and Stop the lady sitting on my bed! Her husband claimed to have seen the old lady while in bed one night. The old woman had been leaning over the bed, wearing a headscarf, but just her head and shoulders were visible. He had asked her to go away, because he had been scared by the incident and she allegedly vanished like smoke dissipating..... Ironically, his wife had actually asked the ghost to show itself and their alarm clock began floating up and down and stopped on midnight. When they woke up next morning, the clock was still reading midnight. The description seemed to tally with the same woman seen by the son, though the family members had never actually seen anything together. A visiting clairvoyant said that there were definitely two spirits in the house, but she didnt know who they were. Two members of the clergy from a local church came to the house and performed rites, asking the spirits to leave. It was reported that activity ceased for a brief period of time and then, as in many instances of this type, began again afresh. (They had suffered activity for a further 18 months to 2 years before the church was finally asked to attend once more). Following the visit from the clairvoyant, the activity appeared to cease completely..... The family reported that the ghosts had done no real harm to them and they generally felt no fear - anymore, after a while, in hindsight - on the subject. A previous resident of the property, when asked, admitted that they had experienced lots of peculiar things in the address. Photographs had been turned round; pictures taken / fallen off walls; their dog going mad at certain spots on the walls of the house, etc. Nothing of this nature had occurred since the current family had moved in, however(?) Interestingly, someone (?) had advised them to move the furniture around in the sons room at one point, suggesting that it was affecting the ghosts access to the bedroom cupboard which contained the loft hatch..... While something of a bizarre suggestion, certain changes were made - items moved to opposite side of room - and the ghost hadnt actually been seen since!? One key matter of interest in this matter is the notion that ghosts would somehow respond to the fear - or expression of fear from victims of the haunting - and potentially remove themselves from the situation because of this fear!? Needless to say, this is a reasonably common feature of different cases at times and would certainly give the impression that there was a considerable degree of sentience in the haunting, to be able to consider situations and respond accordingly, etc? I must admit that this isnt something that sits well in my personal views of haunting activity (purely my personal belief system, of course, etc), as I dont happen to personally believe that such consideration is actually possible in these circumstances!? The other point of interest to me is the fact that experiences concerning the different occupants of the site do not appear to tally. Again, this is another reasonably familiar motif in this sort of situation, which certainly leads to a fair amount of speculation over such things....? On one hand, I guess that it could be suggested that the personal - individual - psychology of each family unit brings its own, unique thing to the overall mix and influences the activity, perhaps...... or maybe its a more wide-ranging effect insomuch as there is a transferred knowledge that suggests haunting but the finer details themselves are not known / passed on and the activity is somehow generated by a simple matter of knowledge of the professed situation? (This latter can usually be viewed in cases of haunting spanning many decades or even centuries in cases, where the knowledge that a place is supposedly haunted potentially creates ongoing activity, while the reported activity itself changes (radically sometimes) with the passage of time, etc!?)
