As has happened before on more than one occasion, my friend Gareth Higgins speaks my heart better than I have found the words. Scotland has touched me and moved me deeply, from my first trip there in 1989, hitch-hiking and camping out wherever I found a spot, to my most recent trip, where I spoke at the Scottish Parliament. Im grateful, and holding you in the Light today. Gareth said this: Thinking of all my Scottish friends - born and adopted - on the eve of your referendum. I have my view, but whether the outcome is yay or nae, I am feeling lots of love and affection for you, and gratitude for the gift of your land in my life. From visiting Edinburgh as a child, to the life-changing experience of a week on Iona, to friendships with some of the loveliest, creativiest, laughingest people I know, and now to a space where now I get to see Scotland as home for a few days or a week each year, most recently by two lochs - the huge one with the monster, and the little one near Arthurs Seat, I am marked with joy and affection. Go well friends. And if the outcome isnt what you prefer, in either direction, youll still have what you always had. Thanks for sharing it with us.
