As ice melts, crusts and plates bounce back causing earthquakes - TopicsExpress

As ice melts, crusts and plates bounce back causing earthquakes that change the currents in the seas that then affect coastal areas, triggering volcanoes. The increased weight of melt water in the oceans also adds pressure to existing fault lines causing destabilization that can result in earthquakes. Methane is released due to warming of the permafrost on the seafloor, and thermal expansion of the crust. Also, as earthquakes occur, cavities of methane open, releasing the gas which expands up to 160 times in volume as it hits warmer air warmed, having an immediate effect on local warming, triggering further methane release. Methane has an even more extreme, longer lasting effect on global warming than CO2. arctic-news.blogspot.tw/2013/09/methane-release-caused-by-earthquakes.html
