As if the poor old British taxpayer hasn’t already suffered - TopicsExpress

As if the poor old British taxpayer hasn’t already suffered enough from high taxes and VAT etc. we now learn of another burden we must bear. The latest news is that student loans amounting to £5.3 billion have yet to be repaid. And that the Business Department (BIS ) and the student loan Company (SLC) which helps to collect payments have little or no idea of the whereabouts of some of the 368,000 students who have simply vanished or are in deficit. This is simply not good enough, as in view of information received from various sources they hold the view that many recipients have no intention of paying back their loans, offering the excuse of low post graduate earnings, or difficulty in finding suitable employment. While it must be appreciated that that we need those educated to a higher level to use their skills in jobs beyond the norm, otherwise the world would become without prospects or progress, it is hard to understand why ,on matriculation , it seems to be de rigour to take a gap year and tour the world. What is all that about? How many young manual workers can afford to do that? From another angle the august bodies mentioned, set up to control and regulate loans and repayments, are able to point out with a degree of accuracy money owed by students and their country of origin, they admit to having little or no idea of their addresses. A great job! Comparable only with those whose work is controlling immigrants and asylum seekers. Heaven help us when the new batch of self seeking, ‘get what they can’ tourists arrive from the Balkans in January.
