As if you needed another reason to chomp on broccoli… New research conducted by the University of Anglia, the University of Oxford and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital report that sulforaphane, a compound in broccoli, blocks the enzymes that cause cell destruction and degeneration in bones and joints, thereby reducing the risk of osteoarthritis. The next stage of the research is a trial on current sufferers about to have knee replacement surgery. How exciting is nutrition science!!! :) Incase you were wondering, sulforaphane is contained in all cruciferous and Brassica vegetables such as cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale and cabbage. However, it is most abundant in broccoli.
