As it is Valentine’s Day, let’s give a final salute to a couple who showed us what “till death do us part” truly means. Michael and Olympia DeNitts of Woodbridge, New Jersey, met after their parents came to America from Italy. They were childhood sweethearts who never lived more than a block apart until they were happily married. Then three years ago, Michael was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He loved life and didn’t want to die. He never expected that his beloved wife Olympia would go before him. But she contracted pneumonia and died Sunday. Just hours later, Michael passed away. Their granddaughter said she felt that Olympia wanted to be able to welcome him into Heaven, and he was finally ready to let go, so he could rejoin her. Naturally, they even shared their funeral together – in the same church where they were married – 67 years ago.
