As it is new years eve then it is time to play this - just like I have every year since the record came out in the the early 1970s. I still havent worked out this curiosity; why are the soloists behind the backing! does it represent the subjugation of the individual to the rituals and ceremonies of the collective! why is the backing scored like wheezing old church organ! why is the only clear voice the flute, the most unconventional big band instrument! is the flute an extension of the organ voicings!
