As it is said. Talk is cheap. When it comes down to real issues, it seems that only a few are willing stand up to be counted. The rest wait to complain. Such is the nature of human beings. The email below was sent out from AAK. When the deadline came, only 30 people had taken the online survey and 3 had registered for the meeting. But I expect to read complaints about submission right here next week (never mind the fact that the complainer should have taken advantage to bring it to the right forum). I can say with absolute certainty that most, if not all architects, have some feedback regarding the online submission process. Riddle me this: Why are people usually so keen on complaining and pulling down rather than in contributing and building? Why are people too busy when they are required to play a part, but somehow find the time to complain? Dear Member, Greetings from the AAK Secretariat. Nairobi City County increased its permit fees by up to 1000% dependent on the size and value of development project. Development projects submitted and approved in Q1 2014 dropped 16% from the same period the year prior yet over Ksh 180M in fees were collected, a four times increase on development projects of a 70% total value. Kenya Property Developers Association and the Architectural Association of Kenya have been presenting to NCC the need for reforms in the planning and permitting regulations as well as a more rational approach to any increase in the permit fees. We are calling for greater transparency in the value for money towards better service delivery to the property industry. This email is to request you to take part in an online survey on the submission process. The survey will assist us in preparing for an impact workshop to be held on Wednesday 10th September 2014 from 7.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. at United Kenya Club. NCC has been invited to this workshop. Please click on the link below and proceed to fill out the survey by 12.00 noon Monday 8th September 2014. https://surveymonkey/s/927NFMX We request anyone interested in participating in the breakfast workshop to express interest by 5.00 p.m. Friday 5th September 2014. We have 10 slots reserved for the AAK membership. Breakfast will be served.
