As leader of ETPBR, I have decided to remove a dog from a home. - TopicsExpress

As leader of ETPBR, I have decided to remove a dog from a home. The adoption process was never finalized because the family never followed thru on spaying and vaccinating the mixed breed female in the home. The dog was essentially still being fostered and still in legal possession of ETPBR. We had some concerns about the dogs in the home when the wife called late one night and asked if she, her 6 yr old daughter, and both of our dogs could come and stay with us for the night as her husband was drunk and being verbally and mentally abusive. We said yes as we were concerned about their safety. They stayed until the next afternoon. Again, I was contacted on the night before Thanksgiving...and it was the same story. This time I said no...we had holiday things going on and my house was in chaos already. During this, the husband posted a fund raiser stating there home was going to be foreclosed on and could people please donate and help them out. Each of these events raised red flags and caused discussions about the safety of the dogs. On New Years Day...I was called and asked to come and get both dogs. The husband had come in drinking again and the wife was going to her parents where neither dog could go. The county sheriffs department was on scene and the husband was standing against the patrol car. The wife had already left. When asked about leashes for the dogs, the husband said he had no idea. We got both dogs in the car and brought them to my home. At this point,,,discussions started about the safety of returning the dogs. By Monday...it had been decided that they would not be sent back into the home. I had conversations via text (and yes I saved them!) suggesting that they address the issues currently on their plate and that they make arrangements to vet the dog still in their home. Last night, I was contacted by the Sheriffs office and told that I can be arrested for interfering with the activities of a registered service dog if I do not return him. After showing the officer the legal documents that show the dogs belong to ETPBR, he said he would need to turn this over to the county detectives. I contacted the Service Dog Registry and they state that registry with them does not denote ownership. It has come to my attention that said individual has started a FB campaign based on DRAMA (I know! Imagine that!). Please remember that the well being of one of our dogs is at stake here and you may hear things that are unsettling. I can weather it personally as I have been down that road before...but for the dog...when the people involved with his rescue and saving his life committed to him...we promised he would not be in jeopardy again. We will stand on that promise.
