As little girls, the ladies wanted desperately to be the prettiest, cutest, and most sought after girl in the area. As little boys, the guys wanted desperately to be the most handsome, attractive, and eligible boy in the area. However, as age, experience, and maturity began to have their way, the ladies’ desperate desire to be the cutest, prettiest, and most sought after gives way for the desire to be the most helpful, resourceful, and strongest. The guys on the other hand, change from desperately wanting to be the most handsome, attractive, and eligible to wanting to be the most visioneering, composed, and stable man. For reasons obvious to all, we change from wanting mere skill, to wanting true strength. And we must feel sorry for those who don’t undergo this change. When the realities of life and existence begin to dawn on us, we become more aware that strength is superior to skill and that those who will hold through the storms need strength over skill and a greater anchor than a wider sail. As I reflect on the needs of my generation and the ones to come, it becomes quite clear to me that for the majority, priorities have been misplaced. We celebrate skill and talent over strength, stamina, and stability. If you don’t believe me just check our MBGN shows and reality TV shows. Some even go as far as rewarding the most cunning, untrustworthy and backstabbing for ingenuity. What a tragedy. We look for the most beautiful girl rather than for the most supportive woman. We look for the most handsome boy rather than for the most enduring man. We look for flame rather than for sunlight which is true power. We look for romance rather than for true love. We look for excitement rather than for bonding. We look for friendship rather than for companionship. We look for brilliance and intelligence rather than for content and character. We look for money rather than for true wealth. We look for fame rather than for value in a name. We look for relics rather than for relationships. We look for speed rather than peace. And the worst of them all, we look for goods rather than for God. Search your heart friend, as you make your choices daily, run from pillar to post, and get about your daily pursuits.
