As long as Jade Harrison of Mt Egerton could remember she wanted - TopicsExpress

As long as Jade Harrison of Mt Egerton could remember she wanted to work with people or animals and at different stages had ideas of becoming a vet or a nurse. Nineteen year old Jade is completing a three month course in Certificate 3 in Home and Community Care and in Aged Care at Ballarat University. Her first placement will be in mid-November for a three week job trial that leads to full time employment. Eventually she hopes to be working in a dementia ward. If that is not enough, Jade’s interest in social work means she is busy fundraising for her trip to Mozambique in south east Africa with the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad. VESA for short it is a volunteer travel organisation bringing together working groups of students and villagers for the benefit of these communities. Sustainable infrastructure projects in the areas of education, sanitation and water supply use eco-friendly materials sourced locally and employ local tradespeople. Excited and looking forward to the challenge Jade feels she will be doing something worthwhile by helping others besides broadening her experience. She had to undergo background checks and will be part of Group No. 4 comprising fifty plus students from around Australia and New Zealand and is in constant contact with them via group email. Leaving on the 18th January 2015 for two weeks Jade has to raise about $5000 covering return flights, accommodation and program costs plus travel insurance. Sponsorship from various individuals and community groups are helping. Jade is available to talk about the role of VESA and her involvement in the Mozambique project to any interested group. Contact Jade on 0418873473.
