As long as mental illness is ridiculed, laughed about, or grossly - TopicsExpress

As long as mental illness is ridiculed, laughed about, or grossly misunderstood-- those who suffer from it will suffer in silence for fear of being found out and ostracized. Today, Robin Williams fell into the clutches of his mental illness. It serves as a reminder that no group of people is impervious to mental illness. And while Im thinking of it, I want you to remember this post the next time you see a homeless person. Most have mental illnesses. Many are veterans with PTSD. As a society we have failed those people and let them fall through the cracks. We have failed to lend support to those in need of it. Its a disease... like breast cancer is a disease... People cant just snap out of it and the struggle is real, and there are dire consequences to it. So if your family sucks and is unsupportive, find friends. If your friends suck and are unsupportive, find new friends. It is imperative that you find someone who can understand and support you, or even help you get better. Whatever you do, dont give up. Stay in the fight.
