As many of my friends have advised me to not hurt the “sentiments” of some students and warned not to be “communal” enough to struggle for permitting beef/pork stalls in EFLUtsav, I think it’s high time to make my take unambiguous on this issue. To me, EFLU is a democratic and secular space where all kinds of cultures should meet their spaces based on their constitutional right. And more importantly I am a Muslim and I do/can consume only halal foods but how can I stop my fellow beings from having their own menu which is non-halal to me and based on my belief? If we are not ready to tolerate with beef/pork in public spaces, it’s clear destruction of the democratic right of largest population of India by repressing the majoritarian food culture for the concern of dominant culture. And as a part of EFLU Students’ Union, I value the decision taken by majority of the council, but only with my dissent and protest and I am still for chicken, mutton, beef, pork, snake, fish, dog, tomato, potato and all kinds of foods and will stand for the democratic rights of all sects.
