As many of you know I attempt to play a variety of instruments including guitar, bass and drums. All with varying degrees of success. I am mostly self taught which for me means practicing with the instrument and watching how other people play as well. When I started playing drums with 50 Breaks, I had them set up according to how Id see them set up over the years with previous drummers. I made adjustments as they occurred. I recently played a gig where we were sharing a kit from another band. His kit was set up quite different from mine with the maun difference being the location of the large ride cymbal being over the right side of the kick. While there were some difficulties adjusting to the different layout, I immediately noticed a dramatic improvement in my use of the ride. It was a big enough difference to prompt me to try to rearrange my kit. And so I have. It took a bit to figure it out but Im already hearing and feeling the difference so a big thanks to Hugo FranciscoSan PedroAyala for the opportunity to learn something new!
