As many of you saw, I made Ann a nice pair of Peridot earrings - TopicsExpress

As many of you saw, I made Ann a nice pair of Peridot earrings last night. I had ordered a bunch of cut stones to get an idea of what our rough stones could look like if they were cut. I also just wanted to have some around. On the Peridot ones, 4 stones came in the little plastic bag. They were so tiny, I could hardly hold them in my fingers to examine them. I laid all 4 out side by side and looked at them in a bright light. Gorgeous is all I can say. I told Ann that they looked the color of Emeralds. I wanted to see the detail work of all the many little facets (flat spots) that had been cut into each one to reflect all of the light. That is called Light dispersion. The bottom part of the gem is cut also to help reflect its beauty. I got my little 32 power magnifying glass out (has a built in bright light which you can turn on to really see the gem well). I took the 1st one and started examining it and could not find any imperfections. #2 coming up, I started examining it and lo and behold there was a major scratch right across the top on the side kind of. I looked and looked. Correct, It is a major flaw, looks like it was hit against something like a tiny screw driver or something. Checked #3 and #4 all perfect. Now with the naked eye nobody can ever see this flaw but I know it is there. Now, Im left in a dilemma: do I go ahead and use it and nobody will ever know or do I send it back for a replacement. Im going to stop right here but I believe this might be a sermon. Do our lives have major flaws in them like this stone. If it does what are we going to do about it. Are we going to be rejected or is that flaw going to be overlooked. Id like to hear your thoughts about this.
