As most of you are aware already, there is an Internal posting for the CAO-Clerks job. Lil has decided it’s time to retire and I know we will all wish her well. Now that leaves us with her position to fill. Let’s take a look at that. The qualifications for her job are extensive and not just anyone is qualified to take over. If we had to train someone to take this job, it would be at, I’m sure, a very high price. We would have to send them to so many courses and updating that the cost would be probably astronomical. So let’s look at who we have here that could be considered -- INTERNAL. We have Tammy Wylie -- treasurer Dyanne Roberts -- planning assistant Dennis Rowntree- Chief Building Official Floyd Thomson -- Facilities Manager Fire Chief -- Bob Whitman Acting Road Supt.-- Bruce Brear Joe Lamb --- Councillor Don Carter --- Councillor Bill Church --- Councillor Colette Deacon --- Councillor Chris Armstrong -- Mayor / Deputy Fire Chief Bert Roberts --- Labourer / Landfill Site Attendant Kathy Whitman --- Fire Prevention Officer Janice Bray --- Health and Safety Officer/ Captain If there is anyone else that is considered INTERNAL, I apologize if I omitted you. So let’s take a look at who on this list might be qualified. I can personally see one, maybe two that would be even close to being qualified for this position. Tammy Wylie and Bert Roberts are the only two that I personally know have been involved in the Administration end of things to the point they may be able to step in and handle Lil’s job without it costing us an arm and a leg for training. Tammy has been our treasurer for many, many years and knows the ins and outs of the Municipality and how it’s operated. She has been considered to be Lil’s assistant by several people. Bert Roberts operated and ran two large businesses in Parry Sound for many, many years so he knows how a business should be operated. Of course, Tammy would be there to help out with the financial end of things seeing as she’s the Treasurer. I’m sorry that I don’t know the entire background of the other people on the list but I’m sure there are several that are NOT qualified for the job, unless we’re prepared to put out a lot of money for training and such. The person that does take the job should also be one that is fair, approachable by not only staff but by the public, holds the entire Municipality’s interest at heart and is approved by all of council and the ratepayers. There is no sense in having someone in this position that cannot get along with the staff and the public or we will be seeing a lot of discourse happening and none of us want or need that. It is my understanding that when a job is posted INTERNALLY, it is generally for a week and then it is posted publicly. Perhaps that is the best option for everyone. That way it can be shown to be fair and equal to all. Have the public and the Internal staff apply and pick the best qualified of all. After all, we all want what’s best for our Municipality and we want to see the Municipality move forward in a well respected and comfortable way for all. With this being an election year, I’m sure that our present council and Mayor and any future candidates can all agree that What’s best for the Municipality is what’s best for the people. Thank you and good luck to all that apply for this very important position.
