As most of you know, I help Ingliston with their showing events. We started up our Grassroots shows a few years ago, the idea being to encourage people new to showing to give it a go with user friendly judges who would give advice as required. It was also aimed at giving young horses/ ponies a safe/schooling outing. For example, if a horse misbehaves in the ring, it isnt asked to leave but invited to stay, in the middle of the ring during the go round if necessary, to let the rider work through any issues. Behaviour is reflected in placings but we try very hard to make the classes very encouraging.. We do run a points series with rather good prizes at the series final. Following a few comments over the last season, I feel I may need to tighten up wording to avoid pot hunting should I exclude riders who have competed at the RHS RIHS or HOYS? Or perhaps allow the to compete HC if they just want an outing I have always gone with novice combination so experienced rider on an inexperienced horse or pony and vice versa. I dont want to over restrict but want people to go with the spirit of the series. It was lovely to watch riders develop over last year and gain confidence What is your thoughts? Ive attached screenshots of last years wording.
