As most of you know and some of my new friends are finding out, my life has completely changed in the last year....A year ago tomorrow, I started a countdown to what I thought was about 45 days out from the birth of my grandson, Hayes Deverne.......We didnt know his name and Nana and I had no idea how drastically our love for a baby would grow and change us......Anywho, Hayes birthday is coming up and I thought I might revisit these promises and see how I am doing as his Big.......I have included the comments but might not always do that......Hope you enjoy....or block me now....At the beginning, I will try and post the status of the promise!!!! STATUS:......BIG CONTINUES TO PRAY EVERYDAY FOR YOU AND YOUR PARENTS....... Bigs Promises............Guide to Grandparenting I have looked around for some grandparenting manuals and how-to guides......No one teaches you how to be a good grandparent.....I estimate Baby Potter will arrive in approx. 45 days.......So, in honor of his arrival I will be posting a countdown for my tips to be a good BIG......Some will be serious and some will be fun but they will all hold some truth....Block me or ‘unfriend’ me now if you wish...... but let the countdown begin...Here are my ideas/promises, if you will, to my grandson........ #45...I will continue to pray for you and your parents daily that you will all be healthy and all your dreams realized...... Comments: Stephani Freeman.... You will be a great grandparent. Just like you were a great teacher. Just be true to your heart. Ronda Alexander..... I personally find becoming their favorite with everything they like. Trips for ice creams. Stores for toys. Oh yeah not my Job to correct that job belongs to my children. Movies movies and movies. Spoiling is in my vocabulary. Thats what I do Carrie Ann Watters..... Me too, Ronda. The big rule at my house was no spanking. I didnt spank mom & dad. How they discipline at their home is their business. We spoil them, thats our job. Carla Burd Colpitts..... Les, if you need some good guidelines I would recommend my mother. Our kids swear shes the best meme in the world. And I totally agree! Linda Colt..... You will be fine! It will all come natural!! LaCrecia Parks..... Spoil them & then send them back to mom and Dad! Randy Wadsworth..... Advice my dad said we can give the grand kids all the candy and sweet drinks they want. They are going home with you kids Toma Burgess Foster..... I envision that grand parenting just comes naturally... There are no books or guides that prepare you, as each special little blessing is unique and will respond differently... I dont think there are enough words to describe how amazing it feels to be a grandparent, although I do know that grandparents play a huge role in the lives of their grandchildren.. I have witnessed that... So excited for you guys!! Just enjoy every moment!! Lennet Carey Drummond..... Spend as much time with your grandchildren as you can and as long as they know you LOVE them. You cant go wrong. Sara Helmer McElroy..... Spoil! But be respectful of the parents and their parenting style. For example, we dont allow the kids to have soda. And whats the first thing my in-laws do? Soda. Or tv shows or whatever it is. Not cool man. Its not undermining the parents, its adding on to...being cooler than...being a constant, positive role in their lives, not unlike parenting. Just my opinion! Youll do great!!! Jim Norwood..... It boils down to this . . . the priority is what’s in the best interest of the child — always. LaCrecia Parks..... Martin had to introduce all of our KS Grand-babies to Sweet Tea & I had to teach them about OU..at a very early age... Susan Chamblee..... Dad set a wonderful example for his Grandson Derek Potter. SPOIL!!!! D&H Kelly Stuckey..... RELISH EVERY MOMENT! THEY GROW UP VERRRY FAST! Connie Jeannee Kennedy..... your life will instantly change for the better the second you hold that first grandbaby.....there is no greater blessing. Ellen E Weigant..... Its just parenting but without as many responsibilities and more fun. As always with kids the important part is the amount of time you spend with them. The more the time the better the relationship. Looking forward to our next grandson. Vida Miles..... Spoil them and send them home. Linda Kay Priest..... Ellen is right! Spend as much time as you can with him! I have a feeling that wont be a problem for you and Leslie! Nadana Maddox..... Here is a rule that I live by re: grands......you spoil a child be telling them no then giving in to their demands. You cannot spoil them if you never tell them no! So I dont! (of course, if its dangerous for them, I say no) Les, you will love being a grandparent and will be a good one! Dee DeMoss..... Oh, youve got the heart for it!!! Just wait until he hunts/fishes with you!!! Julie Laughlin..... Jeff Laughlins PaPa always said if he knew how wonderful grandkids were he would have had them first!
