As most of you know, here at All Kinds we see…all kinds of pets. But did you know? The number one health related concern we see with exotic pets is usually related to husbandry, or the basic care and keeping of an animal. Nutritional deficiencies and improper housing are usually at the root of so many of the health problems that we see here at the hospital. Reptiles, such as lizards and snakes, have environmental lighting and heating requirements specific to their kind – and each species is different! Guinea pigs and rabbits require large amounts of good quality Timothy hay as the main source of their diet – and Guinea pigs need daily Vitamin C. During exam appointments for exotics, our doctors not only perform a full physical exam, they spend the majority of their time discussing and teaching exotic pet owners everything they need to know about their special pets – something that our doctors thoroughly enjoy since they want you to have the healthiest pet possible. Did you know that All Kinds Veterinary Hospital sells specialty food for your exotic pets? That’s right! We have in stock, several different types of high quality bird foods, guinea pig and rabbit foods, as well as Oxbow brand Timothy and Botanical hay for your little guys. We also have vitamin supplements for reptiles, small mammals and birds. And if your exotic pet is not feeling well and in need of some extra special nutritional support, we’ve got that covered too! Got questions about your exotic pet? Give us a call and we’ll be happy to help guide you in the right direction to make sure your special pets are on the right path to good health!
