As most of you know music is an obsession to me. Not just playing it, but listening to it, reading about, researching the history of it, living it. I became an addict at 9 or 10 years old listening to my sisters Elvis, Little Richard and Do-wop records. I started playing at 13, owned a record shop in the 70s, and have spent enough on records, tapes and cds over the years, that I could have probably retired on it. I cant explain the feeling that I experienced standing where Johnny Cash, Elvis, & Carl Perkins did at Sun Studio, where Otis Redding did at Stax, where Muddy Waters did in Clarksdale, where the stage at Woodstock was in Bethel, NY, to Asbury Park, to the blues joints of Chicago, to blues festivals in two countries, and to SXSW in Austin. And this past week, we stood in Duane Allman and Berry Oakleys bedrooms (I got chills), I also returned to Rose Hill Cemetery to visit Duane and Berrys grave sites. That is only a sample of the places that my obsession has taken me, it would take an entire page to list them all. What I am getting at is that I have dragged my wife to graveyards, studios, museums, crossroads, and so on. And she goes willingly because she understands what it all means to me. Im a lucky guy. P.S. I havent told her that our next vacation is to Muscle Shoals, AL :-)
