As most of you know my 8 year old son Carter was diagnosed one year ago with Type 1 Diabetes. There is no cure for Type 1 and it is NOT reversible. It is an auto immune disease which I did not know until he was diagnosed. Type 2 is completely different because it is brought on normally by an unhealthy lifestyle and can be cured. Carter gets 5 shots a day to manage his diabetes, we count ALL carbs at each meal/snack and he tests and pricks his finger about 10 times a day. He has a pack with all his medicine, syringes, testing supplies, gluclose tabs and kit he MUST take with him at ALL times. Carter will have this for the rest of his life unless a cure is found. Its a difficult disease to manage, but Carter is resilient and doing pretty good for an 8 year old! We are always hoping and praying for a cure! Having these great events and fundraising will help find a cure! Our very good friend from high school Gina Evans Hardesty also has Type 1 Diabetes. Her amazing husband John Hardesty has created a fundraising team for his wife, Ginas Angels!! He helped me form Carters Cruisers! He is hosting an annual golf outing in May sponsored by Advocare to help raise funds and awareness for Diabetes.
