As much as I try to avoid Dr Facebook, out of sheer desperation, - TopicsExpress

As much as I try to avoid Dr Facebook, out of sheer desperation, Ill give it a shot: Does anyone have experience with Piriformis Syndrome? I was starting to have issues a while back and then had several weeks off due to an unrelated problem and after 4 or 5 days of running again its come back. Basically I get intense radiating pain through my calves and ankles, mostly on my right. As I continue I also lose a bit of control in those areas until I eventually struggle to even walk properly. A bit of self massage with a tennis ball around the glute area causes the pain to subside. I know all the stretches and can release the tension reasonably well, but I need to work out how to prevent it in the first place. I thought I made a bit of progress yesterday when I realised my knee moves out slightly as I lift it and focused on bringing it straight up and forward. This helped yesterday but I struggled again today, Im hoping the nerve just needs a bit of rest and this new movement pattern will work. I dont really expect anyone to actually be able to specifically help me(my physio just gave me stretches), but maybe some anecdotes or ideas may give me an idea to try. The reason for my desperation is that Im doing the New York Marathon in less than 3 weeks, my training has been very compromised but Im fit and I can run a lot further than I currently am if my legs would listen to me. If it was any other race, Id have pulled out of it about a month ago, but theres no way Im not turning up at the start line and doing every thing I can to finish. Id just really like to _run_ it.
