As my clients know, I am one of those people that when more and more people begin to agree with me I reconsider. So when I see all these folks agreeing that jobs and hopefully breadwinning ones at least are the thing to focus on, it made me pause. Upon further reflection I just want to say welcome to the party. With that in mind I would like to reference something Mark St. John shared on facebook. sheilakennedy.net/2014/09/a-task-for-indys-next-mayor/ While one of my goals when elected is to constantly use the creation of bread winning jobs as the key yardstick with which to judge policy decisions. We dont have to wait for a male Mayor or anyone else to get started. Since most jobs are private sector the real conversation that needs to be had is with that group. Never the less, government can assess the jobs they create using the same yardstick. Beyond that I think government just gets in the way. I would just be happy if we could stop watching them pat themselves on the back when they talk about creating jobs by giving away taxpayer money or granting tax breaks that create jobs that will never generate future tax revenues sufficient to cover the tax benefit granted much less alleviate what is becoming a black whole called the city budget. While I may disagree on the who and how, let me see the statement in this article and raise you with the challenge to anyone to name an Indiana Social Problem that would not be diminished to an easily manageable size if not eliminated altogether if 7 out of 8 Hoosier households enjoyed at least a Bread winning level of EARNED income. I should not have to make this clarifying statement but will. I am talking about an each not average measurement. On average Indianapolis has a temperature similar to San Diego. We all saw how that worked out for us here in January. So, Instead of pouring ice water over our heads for a good cause lets ice down something brewed in Indy and get a copy of the payroll register for say Citizens Energy and go bobbing for bread winning jobs and see how many we can find. The summary report for end of June with personal financial information redacted and replaced with say job description and hire date in an excel spreadsheet format would be positively intriguing I would bet. So if Ms. Kennedy or anyone else, can get the report and the ice I will ask a brother for some of his finest home brew and we can get some insight possibly. Then they can use that insight as they hob nob here in indy with those that do have job creation power. Speaking of hob nob I apologize in advance for more than the usual grammatical errors. I have to run and crash the Indy Chamber Hob Nob candidate event. I guess Libertarians candidates are not invited. It is at Cranes Bay downtown if you are interested. With IMPD busy at the McDonalds rounding up protesters I like our chances for getting in.
