As my friend Gary Johnson of Michigan Rock and Roll Legends wrote .. Its hard to imagine that one of the worlds most famous rock and roll bands would actually steal a song from a 1963 recording by a little-known Detroit R & B group for its first single .. especially when that band contains a songwriter of the caliber of Pete Townsend. But thats what happened .. as the song in question was this one, sung by the Dynamics, with the instrumental backing by a young Dearborn combo called The Royal Playboys. Bottom line .. Misery by the Dynamics became a huge local hit .. reaching # 4 on WKNR .. and # 44 nationally. And to compare, check out Zoot Suit by the Who, and youll see what we mean.
