As my inbox is flooded with all of the black friday ads and enticements to get people in the spending mood for the ‘holidays’, I think about the irony of it all…and also the absurdity. Every year retailers try ever harder to outdo one another and lure people into their stores. People set up camp, out in front of stores to be first in line? Really? How crazy is that? It says a lot about what is important in people’s lives does it not? People will go to any length and will make every effort to acquire those worthless things that they lust after and desire. They want to possess their idols and have them in their homes and present them as gifts to others. It is consumerism at it’s finest…people trampling one another and fighting over THINGS, many of which will be broken, forgotten, made obsolete by something newer and end up in a garage sale the next summer. People spending money they do not even have, to purchase THINGS that will NOT last and that please the flesh for a very short time. What if people put forth that same effort to seek out the Word of YHVH? What if they were pursuing Him and His Righteousness, like they pursue things of no value and no worth? What if people camped out in front on an assembly, so they could be the first ones inside to learn? What if they gave all they had and made every effort to get the pearl of great price and store up for themselves in the Kingdom of Elohim? Matthew 6:19-21 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart shall be also. I know…it’s just not cool enough. It’s not something you can show off to everyone. It’s not something you want to brag about. It’s not something to make you look good in front of your friends. It’s not something that can keep you entertained all of the time. It’s not something that can keep your attention focused. It’s not popular. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi. It’s not fun… The time is coming when all of those things will be gone and the stores will be empty. The time is coming when those things will be tossed in the street as worthless garbage. The time is coming when people will regret all of the time and effort they spent pursuing THINGS. Do NOT love the ways of this world or lust after its material things. Learn to be set-apart. Seek YHVH while He may be found…seek Him before the door is closed. Isaiah 2:19-22 19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, from dread of יהוה and the splendor of His excellency, when He arises to shake the earth mightily. 20 In that day man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which they made, each for himself to worship, to the moles and bats, 21 to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the crags of the rugged rocks, because of the fear of יהוה and the splendor of His excellency, when He arises to shake the earth mightily. 22 Cease from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for in what is he to be reckoned upon? Always, seek the truth…rethink, relearn, return.
