As my kids and some of my friends have said... Coach, You love - TopicsExpress

As my kids and some of my friends have said... Coach, You love history and you missed your calling.... well, History does have a habit of repeating itself. As I watch what is unfolding in Syria and how the United States Navy stands ready to obey the orders of the President of the United States, I think back to another period of time in American History... 51 years ago... October of 1962... or as some historians have called it... the Missiles of October... in 1962 the United States stood on the brink of Nuclear War with the Soviet Union. 13 Days that challenged the leadership of a young President Kennedy and the old resolve of Soviet President Kruschev. In the end, Kennedy succeeded and the Soviets turned their ships back from Cuba toward Russia. Now it is 2013 and the United States is poised to launch missiles into Syria. Congress needs to hear this before this happens... before anything like this Congress needs to approve this. THAT IS LAW UNDER THE CONSTITUTION of the United States. I pray for my fellow sailors that are currently on station in that region of the world including a Aircraft Carrier. I saw and heard a lot of things during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1990/1991) and yes I still suffer some nightmares about that. This is different now... If the United States launches missiles into another country, then that country can rightfully defend itself against such an attack. As of right now, there is no other Navy on station in that area. Canada, France, Britian, no other Naval force but 1.. the United States Navy. To my fellow shipmates on station and to their families... I pray for you all. If the missiles are launched then so be it. Do what you are ordered to do and come home. The United States Navy was on station and ready to defend in 1962... 51 years later still doing it. To the Greatest Navy on Earth and one that I was honored and still proud to serve... God speed to you, United States Navy.
