As of 22nd May 2014… Today, Thailand’s army chief announced a coup d’etat. This means the seizure of power from government and the Thai military are now in control of the country to restore order and put political reforms in place. Their aim is to help the country move forward and resolve political uncertainty as quickly as possible. A nationwide curfew has been put in place from 22:00 to 05:00, daily, until further notice. This applies to both locals and foreigners. It means that tourists visiting all parts of Thailand must return to their accommodation before 22:00 and not leave again until after 05:00 in the morning. The army are sending soldiers and vehicles to escort protesters away from rally sites to end the protests. During this time we advise tourists currently visiting Bangkok to avoid areas where rally sites are situated as there will be large crowds. Away from the areas listed below the rest of the city is accessible and transport is running as normal.
