As of this morning, my youngest, Jared Smith, is scheduled for knee surgery on Tuesday, December 23. We just got back from the doctor and reviewed the MRI results from last Monday. The prognosis is that Jared has a minor/slight tear on the inside of the meniscus of his left knee. The doctor will make a single incision and enter with a scope to see the extent of the damage. He will suture the tear if necessary. In addition, they will draw about 60 ml of blood, spin it down, and separate off the top 3 or 4 ml from the platelet level. I was given a special name for this blood layer, but have since forgotten it. The idea is that this layer of the blood contains a concentrated level of the blood part that promotes healing. We are hoping for a full recovery with minimal time out of action. Jared is on the power lifting team and we are hoping that this will not be too serious a delay for his squat and dead lift.
