As of today, June 16, 2014 there will be a warning/advisory - TopicsExpress

As of today, June 16, 2014 there will be a warning/advisory criteria change for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Warnings (presently issued for any quakes in the region magnitude 6.5 or greater) will be issued by the US NWS National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) for earthquakes in the region magnitude 7.1 and greater. Advisories will be issued for earthquakes in the magnitude range 6.5 to 7.0. The region is the area from 17.0N to 21.0N and 63.5W to 68.25W. This way the criteria will be consistent with the rest of the Caribbean and Adjacent regions under the service area of the PTWC for which a Watch (highest level of alert) is issued for Earthquakes as of Magnitude 7.1. This change was adopted after reviewing historical tsunamis and results of tsunami modeling and with the intention of avoiding unnecessary evacuations.
