As our little one continues to blossom into quite the youngster, - TopicsExpress

As our little one continues to blossom into quite the youngster, we just never know what we will be asked next. Our son asked us a question not long ago, “Why do I have sickle cell? I don’t want it.” Since he was near my husband, I turned my head and worked on holding the tears back. He breathes baseball and many other sports. He realizes more and more the desires of his heart and the fact that he is not so free to do certain things the way that he sees or learns. He could do it all within reason and with various changes put in place. He loves to run to the bases and slide when possible. However, as mom, I think about what could happen and the outcome of his consequences. Jakkob’s question will surface more than we prefer. Years ago, I personally came to realize that what he would go thru would be to help another to get thru. Jakkob has such an amazing drive within himself. He shows leadership that he does not even recognize yet. He is advocating at such an early age and has such a calling on his life. Our little guy loves baseball and will be playing with the city league the season coming up. We had lumps in our throat as we ventured out for this milestone in his life. We have to help him to realize the consequences of not drinking enough water when he plays. We have to continually help him to become even more aware of the possibilities. When I think about the lump that swelled in our throats with concern, it makes me think about when we make decisions about things that we have not taken to our heavenly father. Thankfully, Jakkob seeks our advice and listens attentively in regards to sports. How often are we seeking a word from God about ordering our footsteps? We sometimes move forth when we have not spent time before God for which direction to take. When things go spiraling down, we may ask, “Lord, why did you allow this to happen to me?” Really, HE allowed it to happen to you? Really? Did you seek HIS face? Did you ask HIM to direct your path? We know that our little one will soon start fully living his baseball dream. We will be on the sideline with many other parents. We will cheer like many others. The difference is that we are going to be praying more than some can imagine. We will be seeking God’s help to help us to help him. We want him to enjoy playing longer than an hour and have no setbacks from it. Regardless, it is vital for us to seek God and to hear HIM. Children truly do depend on parents for a sense of direction (sometimes, not always). Children are paying attention and if we can at least help them to know who Jesus is; If we can help them to converse with God daily; If we can help children to develop a relationship with God then maybe, just maybe, that lump that rises in our throat will not have to rise often. Just maybe…
