As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15-October - TopicsExpress

As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15-October 15, President Obama proclaimed that this week be designated as NATIONAL HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTIONS WEEK, 2014. In his proclamation the President stresses the importance of higher education. Our growing Hispanic population will help boost our economy in the United States, but we must first make certain our colleges and universities are accessible and affordable for our middle class families. Here is an excerpt of President Obamas proclamation: Hispanic Americans represent the largest and one of the fastest growing minority groups in the United States, yet they are continually underrepresented in our colleges and universities. HSIs -- where more than half of Americas Hispanic undergraduates attend -- are critical to increasing the college enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of this expanding population. That is why the Federal Government is investing more than $1 billion over 10 years in these schools to renew, reform, and expand higher education programs for Hispanics.
