As part of National Road safety Week, with the message; “Look Out For Each Other”, the Somerset Road safety Team visited Yeovil College on Wednesday to offer advice to riders and free roadworthiness checks for mopeds and motorcycles used by college students. Out of the 20 checked it was good to see some well-maintained machines, but some were not so good. The message is “make sure you check your tyres for pressure and tread at least once a month, with a road surface contact area the size of a credit card, you need to know your tyres are well maintained, otherwise you risk disaster”. “Motorcycle casualties are a real concern for us and we want to do all that we can to encourage their safe and responsible use. Many young people chose to use them as affordable transport to college, so don’t risk falling off and injury, which may disrupt your studies, or worse”.
