As part of our effort, and Gov Patricks efforts, to improve parks and playgrounds, tonight I will ask the city council to accept a State grant to improve GAR park-- the park in the center of the city on Main St. The State grant will add a playground (near the bandstand), an area to freeze over for ice skating, new trees and landscaping and new benches to spruce up the appearance of this park. We thank the Patrick administration, and our State delegation led by Rep. Brian Dempsey and Senator Kathleen OConnor Ives for their assistance in obtaining this grant-- it would not have been possible without them. It will improve the appearance of the center of our city and will go well with the new landscaping we have installed at Whites corner and the new develoment at the Woolworth building.
