As part of the Youth TechCamps program activities currently taking place between Jordanian and U.S. high school students, four Interactive Videoconferences (IVCs) have taken place since the beginning of 2014 aiming to answer the question ”How do we as youth use technology to create solutions for climate change issues affecting our local and global communities?” 28 Jordanian from both East and West Amman and 8 U.S. high school students from Lusher Charter School and New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School in the State of Louisiana, enthusiastically participated in discussions on four important topics, namely: Global Climate Change, Sustainable Energy Sources, Citizen Science and Sustainable Design and shared photos of its impact on Jordan and the U.S. in addition to connecting through an online platform in order to share potential projects ideas to address climate change challenges. Between June 18-25, Jordanian students will meet their U.S. peers in Amman, Jordan for the in person TechCamp and work on turning their knowledge into action and begin to conceptualize their project ideas with the help of Jordanian Technologists and mentors. The camp also will include site visits to several nature reserves in Jordan and other environmental and development organizations. Students will continue the work on their projects throughout the summer and share them in a Virtual Project Fair in September 2014. On a much related note, parents from Jordan and Louisiana, connected, in a community IVC, to share what their participating children are learning from the program. They also shared aspirations and dreams they have as parents. Funded by the U.S. Department of State and in partnership between AMIDEAST/Jordan and Global Nomads Group (GNG), Youth TechCamps is a nine‐month virtual exchange program whose centerpiece is an in-person 8-day technology camp in Amman, Jordan. The program connects high school students in the United States with their peers in Jordan. In collaboration, U.S. and Jordanian students will investigate local and global climate change issues and develop sustainable solutions harnessed by creativity and powered by technology.
