As part of treatment Veterans’ take part in Occupational Therapy - TopicsExpress

As part of treatment Veterans’ take part in Occupational Therapy sessions. Here are some pictures of a visit from Owls about Town, who came to Tyrwhitt House in Surrey. Many Veterans’ with mental ill-health experience sensory triggers – sounds, sights, touch, and smells - that can lead to flashbacks, disassociation, or panic attacks. The tactile experience of handling animals can ‘ground’ a Veteran during a flashback or panic attack, and is an important tool taught to the Veterans we work with. Grounding can bring people back to the here and now, and handling animals can help with this. We encourage the veterans to engage with animals in order to establish an understanding of role and responsibility as well as a method for coping.
