As per a clear direction from BSNL corporate office to all circles - TopicsExpress

As per a clear direction from BSNL corporate office to all circles across the country, broadband connectivity has to be mandatorily provided to all Common Service Centers (CSCs) under National e-Governance Project wherever feasible by June 15, 2013. It has been assigned to treat the matter on top priority. BSNL has already covered 65,167 CSCs through different technologies. Out of this number, only 15,411 were connected by BSNL. With Department of Information Technology putting pressure on BSNL for providing broadband connectivity to all the feasible CSCs, it has been therefore suggested that efforts would have to be made towards providing connectivity to the non connected CSCs by sending BSNL Officer/Official to reach out to the village level entrepreneur (VLE). Also, non BSNL connected CSCs are to be approached personally with comparative data of BSNL and other operators for convincing VLEs to shift to BSNL broadband connection. This is a major breakthrough for all VLEs facing connectivity issues. All Chief General Managers of BSNL have been requested to bestow personal attention for connecting all the feasible CSCs. VSAT Update It was decided in the 7th Empowered Committee Meeting that connectivity through VSATs would be provided for CSCs in North-Eastern States and difficult areas where connectivity through BSNL is unavailable. The transponder / bandwidth hub infrastructure would be provided by NICSI. As on 20th May 2013, work order has been issued to the Vendor for supply, installation & maintenance of 2,321 CSCs. Of these, site survey has been completed for 1,992 sites. A total of 998 VSATs have been installed across 11 State
