As per the 2011 Census, 64.5% of rural households (approx. 5.25 million households) in Odisha state used a source other than electricity as their main source of lighting and 96.6% rural households (approx. 8.14 million households) used fuels such as firewood, crop residue, kerosene, etc. as their primary source of cooking fuel.Though as per CEA data, as on 31st August 2014, only 18.37% villages (8,756 villages out of a total of 47,677 inhabited villages in the state) are yet to be electrified, the ground situation with regard to energy access leaves a lot to be desired. I request youth to start concentrating on entrepreneurship in this sector. With a capital of Rs.25000/- they can start and it will definitely grow to a high level within a year as the market requirement is very high. People are unaware of Solar energy application, Smokeless wood fuel Chula can be another vocation, Solar irrigation with drip irrigation will give another opportunity for farmers, LED light, CFL lights, wind energy, gassifiers etc are great opportunities youth can really contribute in very big way. My own experience has gone quite a long way with young entrepreneurs.
