As pet loving No Kill advocates, it becomes more and more apparent daily that we have to stop the 100% TOTALLY unnecessary, unjustified and deplorable CONTINUING mass-abuse and mass-murder of healthy and treatable displaced companion animals in shelters and pounds. WE NEED TO HALT IT IMMEDIATELY. AT THE ROOT is the heinous myth of pet overpopulation. THE GREAT LIE. With the large national groups still calling for zero birth and still relentlessly pushing punitive legislation and ordinances, (mandatory spay/neuter, breeding bans, BSL, pet limits, stricter licensing & etc.) Their #1 justification is STILL the overpopulation myth. If allowed to continue, they will cause an even bigger disaster. No Kill is spreading. As of right now, today, the number of successful No Kill communities has increased by 318% since 2012. However, we still face opposition from some of the most powerful organizations, that have access to almost limitless funding and resources. PeTA, for example, has continued their smear campaign of misinformation about No Kill sheltering and what No Kill really means. They, and other extremest groups that claim to stand for animal rights, are violently opposed to No Kill sheltering because of what it means to their agenda. They believe that ALL pets should be discontinued. That domesticated animals should be phased out to free them from slavery to humanity; and by their twisted logic, and on those principles, they are AGAINST any right to life for our beloved companion animals. They defend the killing, and defend the right to keep killing. (whypetaeuthanizes.org/) We do NOT want to spay/neuter pets into extinction. Right now we are heading towards a very real shortage of shelter pets for adoption in the near future. (outthefrontdoor/…/the-coming-shelter-dog-shorta…/) Spay/neuter needs to be kept at a sustainable level. Everyone knows that. Those services should be affordable, readily available, and promoted. However, if ALL privately owned pets are spayed and neutered, and there are no longer any sheltered animals to adopt, the only places left to obtain pets will be pet stores, breeders, and mills. Is it any wonder that the recently retired EX-PRESIDENT of the largest and richest U.S.A. national animal rights / animal advocacy group is now a hired lobbyist for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council? (tinyurl/q3c62g9) Maybe thats what some of those groups have been working for all along. To them, it is all just a huge monopoly game. Maybe they just want to dominate the $55.72 billion dollar a year pet industry by eliminating adoption as a drain on commercial sales... One thing is for sure though: While No Kill is pushing for a healthy balance that ends the killing and gets displaced pets into loving homes, THEIR target is to push mandatory spay/neuter and extermination until there are zero births, zero shelter intakes... and while their end goal may be EXTINCTION, they are only HELPING the very industry that drives the cruel puppy and kitten mills.
