As planned I made my way to the river after finishing todays job, although with only an hour and a half before needing to collect my daughter her from young farmers club. The river was lower than expected but still running through fast so I headed to a swim I had caught Chub and barbel in similar conditions. The setup was a Chapmans Quinette mk8 and a Mitchell 300 loaded with 10lb line as barbel go to 16lb+ and with all the snags its as light as Id fish here. A 1oz lead to hold bottom and size 8 hook with spam for bait. The Barbel didnt show and only one chub, but it was nice all the same although the clouds looked ominous when I got there it cleared and I had an hour of bright sunshine. Not easy fishing with all the leaves and branches being washed through due to the high winds but in this swim enclosed by trees and dense scrub it was an oasis of calm at ground level, and only accessible through a tunnel through the scrub which I needed to duck down more than a foot but still got snagged a few times. The river here is still in the middle of the town stretch but is free and has no club running it, unusual these days :)
