As pro-democracy protests continue in Hong Kong, protest leaders have threatened to step up their action unless the pro-Beijing leader resigns by the end of Thursday. The co-founder of the pro-democracy Occupy Central movement has ruled out any talks with Leung Chun-ying, demanding he leave for the sake of Hong Kong. Also, student leaders say they will occupy government buildings, if the pro-Beijing leader fails to meet their demands by the end of Thursday. Leung is under mounting criticism for failing to engage with protesters following their the so-called Umbrella Revolution. Over the past days, the protesters have occupied parts of the city, including the central financial district. They are furious over China’s decision to limit voters’ choices in a 2017 leadership election.
