As promised I said I would offer up some thoughts on this upcoming winter. I know everybody is rather interested because of the crazy crazy winter we experienced last year. Some of you might have seen the Farmers almanac prediction which is rather daunting. But lets put things into perspective here for a minute. Last winter was insanely crazy, both in the temperature department and the snowfall department. Even if we just had the snow and not the cold or vice versa, last winter will still wouldve been considered extreme. I hate to break it to everybody, but there is just no way we will see a worse winter than last year. Any outlook claiming that it might be is just simply ridiculous. Hypothetically speaking lets just say we receive 50 inches of snow this winter and temperatures average around 2° below normal. One could say that the winter would be severe, however that would be a drop in the bucket compared to last year. Alright now back to the farmers almanac: They use some super secret formula that only two people know. Nobody really knows how much science is actually involved. For the record, The fire was almanac predicted that last summer would be rather hot, and we all know how that turned out. Ill try to have a more nerdier outlook sometime in mid November, but right now theres still things that need to be observed. At this current time Im leaning towards the below normal snowfall category, with temperatures sort of up in the air at this point. One thing that Im watching is the behavior out in the Northern Pacific, which has major implications on our weather in the future. Have a great week everybody! -Mike
