As promised, I want to let my friends know what I found out today about my illness. I have been diagnosed with Gastroparesis. This is the inability to empty your stomach contents into your small intestine. Actually the muscles in your stomach are partially or totally paralyzed. There are medications which can help this condition, but there is no cure. I have been taking the medication which is most frequently used to treat the condition, Reglan. I am planning to go to Johns Hopkins and perhaps the American College of Gastroenterology to find some trials that might be helpful. The problem with having a severe attack is not being able to eat, nausea and vomiting. I can try to help alleviate these symptoms by eating smaller meals, eating non fat, easily digestible foods, and taking the medications prescribed. Generally this is a disease that diabetics get, but I am not diabetic and there is really no way to tell why I have gotten it. My goal is to stay as positive as possible and try to find a way to live as normally as I possibly can. I really appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers over the past several months. That is what has gotten me through to this point. I am sure I will have some down times, but I am going to try to stay positive and live as normally as I possibly can. God Bless you all!
