As promised... The beautiful and clean Central Coast air was filled with both anticipation and the delicious smell of Tri-Tips roasting as the sell-out crowd began arriving at Edwards Barn at 5 p.m. Saturday evening for a very long anticipated Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen and John Jorgenson concert performance hosted by the Orthodox church of the Annunciation and the wonderful clergy headed by Father Lawrence Russell and the church volunteers. After a great traditional Santa Maria style Bar-B-Q with all the trimmings, bidding on a silent auction, the sale of cds, tee shirts, and even a few of Jo Moras iconic Sweetheart of the Rodeo patches, the concert began - and the boys certainly did not disappoint - far fro it! Their voices clear and strong and both the harmonies and instrumentation right on the money, Chris, Herb and JJ sounded as wonderful as ever, their banter as funny and complimentary as usual, and while there were just a few surprises such as Johns rendition of Gene Clarks Set Your Free This Time and Grams One Hundred Years from Now, the set was a powerful and consistent one, mostly classics, with a couple of Chris and Herb Gospel favorites thrown in to boot. So, without any additional formalities here is the set list of the two hour show with a brief intermission: Story of Love She Dont Love Nobody Love Reunited Hes Back and Im Blue Turn, Turn, Turn 100 Hundred Years from Now (John Jorgenson) Time Between No One Else (Herb Pedersen) Eight Miles High Once More (Herb) (end of the first set) Bells of Rhymney Set You Free This Time (John) Rank Strangers* (Herb) Old Crossroads Old Train (Herb) Let Me Get Out of this World (John, Chris and Herb) Hey Boys (Herb) Sin City Wait a Minute (Herb) It Doesnt Matter and the encore - Heavens Lullaby. Just a warm, wonderful, filling in so many good ways show of solid, Americana music by three of the VERY BEST in the business. If you were fortunate to be there, you know. Alan, S.A. * Albert Brumley, the father of the late Buckaroo - and also briefly Desert Rose Band Pedal Steel man Tom wrote that song.
