As promised, heres part one of my report on the March Meet,2014. The top fuel teams did a fine job this year of good side by side racing with a minimum of down time.Round one kicked off with Rick White in the Neal and White machine taking on Roger Lechtenberg in Dan Horans car.Rick hit a fine 5.75 245 over Roger with a slowing 7.15 136.Next out was Rick McGee in the Tedford-McGee Overtime Special taking out Bill Dunlap,5.87 242 to Dunlaps6.03 205. The next match saw Brendan Murray deep stage against Bret Williamson, but apparently something happened at the line, and Williamson ran unopposed to a 6.47 245 as Murray idled to a 25.16. Denver Schutz took his evil looking all black car to a winning 5.78 238 over a motor exploding Jim Young in his Young Guns chevy small block.Young had a brief fire but got stopped without incident.Tony Bartone took a bye run at a shutoff 6.33 162 when his opponent Jim Boyd failed to show with his Red Turkey dragster.A strange race took place next as Dave Hirata broke while firing, and Dusty Green broke at the hit.In years past,Dusty would have had to push his car to the finish line for the win,and there were probably some veteran spectators and racers that would have liked to see that! In a tight match,Ron August pushed the Forever Young entry to a winning 5.87 over Terry Cox in the Cheetah IV on the holeshot at 5.81! The round ended with Adam Sorokin shutting down a bit early with a win over a red lighting Jim Murphy.Sorokin hit a 5.78 213. It should be noted that Murphy was using the motor of Frank Ousley from the Crop Duster funny car for this run. Round 2 got under way with Rick White drilling a 5.66 244 to cover Green at 5.96 206.Rick McGee took a 5.81 242 win over Williamson at a strong, but losing 5.87 259! Adam Sorokin got another chance to wring out a new combination, taking a bye at 6.49 144 when Schutz broke while firing! Bartone went to the final 4 at a 5.62 242 to drop Ron August at a slowing 6.58 152. The final four...Rick White went to the finals at a 5.73 250 over Adam Sorokin who clicked it early to a 6.07 211. Tony Bartone caught Rick McGee at the line and blasted a 5.82 213 over Ricks 5.70 257! In the final,Tony Bartone took the March Meet trophy with a stout 5.62 262 to take out White at 5.71 252.
