As salaam alaikum Sisters and brothers When the Quran was being revealed, the Angel Jibril would direct the PROPHET Muhammad as to where the ayats would go in the Quran. Now as we get into the verses about the women in the Quran, we will also.need to.include the entire context. I say this so.that individuals will understand why we may take more time.on some ayats than others. It.is.important to.understand what Tafsir is.... Tafsir means history, commentary and background information surrounding events. I am just summarizing right now. Without Tafsir we would not be able to understand all of the Quran. We would be lost completely. The companions who were sent to teach people Islam, were chosen by the PROPHET Muhammad according to.their memory of Quran. Memory of Quran did not mean just verses...this was for leading salat. Memory of.Quran implied knowledge of.its history in order to explain,elaborate and educate the people....to remember! The job was to help the people remember! The PROPHET Muhammad gave these instructions: Once the people learn tawhid then teach them salat. After they learn salat, teach them zakah and do not take the best of their wealth. So, you did not move on from.one pillar untill you learned it.....in order to.demonstrate that you learned..you had to.remember what you were being taught. This is one reason why there were so many hafiz of Quran in the masjid, traveling and in.battles. Every Muslim goal is to be a hafiz....not a teacher. One who has memorized the Quran because he loves the Tafsir of it. The hafiz may not want to teach or be known as a hafiz...that is fine. I am.ashamed to be Muslim for over 20 years and.cant speak the Arabic fluently. I decided this year to.accomplish this goal while.pursuing my Master Degrees. In shaallah. Make dua for.me.
