As some of you may already know, my dad (Fred Hulme) was recently diagnosed with cancer. At this moment, we are unsure of the exact "type" of cancer it is, as we are waiting for more in depth biopsy results of a mass in his esophagus. Up to this point, we know he has a mass at the bottom of his esophagus, and some small masses on his lungs and liver. He has been in the ICU at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, due to a pulmonary embolism in his lung. After three days of blood thinners given via IV, the doctors have discharged him and he can now receive these blood thinners via injection that can be given at home. When we receive more information about the "type" of cancer, our plans are to head down to MD Anderson in Houston next week to start a treatment plan. He is doing very well and enjoying being home for a few days before treatment begins. He has some minor discomfort while breathing due to the embolism, but is walking around and being active as usual. He is to follow a low sodium "soft" diet until further notice. We appreciate all the prayers, kind words, and offers to help that have already come our way. Hopefully this page will be a more efficient way to keep all our friends and family up to date on how he is doing. We are praying for a quick treatment and recovery!
